Looking for Corinto information/ pictures

Submitted by Marco E on 22 January, 2008 - 08:31.

I have travelled and lived thru the South and Central regions of Nicaragua. I am interested in doing something a little different on my next venture into Nicaragua and would be interested in any available information on Corinto, and or the general area. ( any pictures would also be interesting if you have any to either post or send to me. Thanks

Corinto

I was in Corinto a few months ago and have always found this town to have unique flavor. It is a port town and has a rich history but the people today that live there do not see many gringos. You must go over the Paso Caballos bridge to get to town but just before on the right is perhaps the finest restaurant in all of Nicaragua. It is called 'Espanol" and if you are up that way it is a must.

On the same trip you can go up north as well. Somoto is probably the best town up that way with without the sprawl of Esteli or the dreariness of Jinotega. Nice town but no sunshine for seven days in a row is not for me. People are people but seems to me the people are more friendly in Somoto. Corinto on up tends to be FSLN territory so some locals may not be too happy to see you but this is the exception. Corinto, Chinandega, and Leon are low lying hot climate while the others I mention have altitude and are much cooler. This is probably the best time to visit all the places due to the great weather.

dreariness

Hi Mark,

read your post..could you help me understand something please?

Did you mean that Jinotega was overcast for 7 days? or was this eleswhere?

I like Jinotega a lot and have invested time and effort looking around ..have been concerend about the "cloud factor" in Jinotega myself... (lack of sunshine)

Correct Jinotega

Somoza dammed the Tuma up there in 63 in part due to the excessive rainfall. Convergance of 3 weather systems commonly occurs. It is cloudy too much for my taste but just an opinion. At my age I like to see sunshine a bit more.
