We'll be in Nicaragua next week any suggestions?

Submitted by nicoyainorlando on 27 October, 2007 - 05:59.

We'll be in Nicaragua next week Nov. 3rd to the 10th; we have made some plans but have left a few days open and are playing it by ear, any suggestions or goings-ons that you can give us heads up on?

Has anyone seen the Folklore troupe dancing in the Ruben Dario Theater Sunday night, Nov. 4th?

Any good shows that week, I'm specially fund of Perrozompopo and Los Mejia-Godoy?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

We have lined up a car and driver, but are facing a little bit of sticker chock...any thoughts

Thanks

I always take the bus. Wouldn't think about a car and driver. You must be rich. Your entertainment needs in Managua can be taken care of by grabbing a copy of Pata De Perro at the airport - small magazine with everything thats going on in the metropolis. They have a web site but it doesn't work. Theatrical productions fall into 2 categories - sold out before you ever heard about it - 30% empty seats day of performance. In other words, don't bother to make too detailed a plan, just grab the magazine and take it from there.

Airport should also have a Granada guide. There are 2 tourist paces in the airport, make sure you clean out the one inside the security zone first, the outside one has far less stuff.

Assuming you are from Orlando, the geography of Managua, Granada, Masaya, Rivas, SJDS, Leon will make you right at home - flat and hot. The mountains start 3 hours to the North of the airport and will not meet your stated entertainment needs. More for watching people pick coffee and riding horses. There is a theatre in Leon that occasionally has something, call TierraTours or the Alcadia, they'll know.

Entertainment-wise, you're going to spend the week in Granada and Managua 'cause thats where its at - which brings me back to the first question. Why do you need a car and driver?

Thanks for the suggestions.

Not rich, just a little paranoid about third world traffic and third world police, also since it is an insured private vehicle the car and driver option cost the same as a fully insured rent-a-car, I may do without the driver once the Prozac kicks in, even if it costs the same, having a car and driver is a little cumbersome.

Also thinking of spending a few days at the beach if it ever stops raining, so the car and driver is only for three days or so, I am sure that once I get acclimated to my old motherland I may start riding buses, although I don't think that's gonna happen in this trip.

I'll do mountains on my next trip, although I may venture to the towns in Carazo for a good Mondongo.

Everyone tells me "Oh no Nicaragua is much dryer than Florida". I'll let you know.

We have a lot of your kinfolks visiting Mickey Mouse this time of year.

I'll look for the "Pata de Perro", thanks for all the suggestions.
