No DDT in my blanket!!Submitted by nuestragringa on 25 October, 2007 - 10:31.
I couldn't resist taking a picture of this- it gets cold up there at La Garnacha at night, and this recycled blanket was provided for me to use, probably a Hurricane Mitch leftover. Wow, I sure am relieved that there was no DDT in my blanket! ( categories: )

you said it gets cold
you said it gets cold up there at night, how cold?
Cold enough...
for the several layers of clothing and blankets I had to wear at night. In a drafty house with no central heating, in very rainy and humid weather, the cold felt worse than it actually was I am sure. I would estimate that it was in the low 50's (11-13 C), but felt colder due to wind and near 100 percent humidity. October is the rainy month, but this rain was even much for October, about 10 days non-stop due to a tropical depression.
Born and raised in Pennsylvanai, I know what real cold is, but after 10 years in Miami, the 50s means cold to me, and is definitely cold for Nicaragua.
weather in Jinotega
What should I expect the weather in Jinotega to be in mid Jan? I'll be there for 3 days. I forgot what was the weather like at that time of year. I only visited in june and july. The weather is perfect then.
Denver springtime
Stand in the sun its great, cross the street into the shade and its cold in a heartbeat. Evening, get out the jacket, bedtime, wheres that second (for me third) blanket. Mid 50's overnight. mid to high 60's daytime. dry. As far as I know, it hasn't dropped below 50F this millenium.
Long pjs- Thanks.
I'll pack my long pjs. I'm cold already here. It's in the 50's during the night. We put our furnance on this week. It's been beautiful in the day. I pray for a mild winter. We hope global warming will affect Chicago. Last winter didn't get cold till late Jan.We had no sun for about 3 weeks. Very depressing!!!!!!!!
well, i should
visit next time i come...
Ounce of prevention . . .
I guess you can never be too careful . . .
But no mention of whether it contains MSG?
Makes me wonder
If there is no DDT, what about all the other possibilities (including MSG). It's like when you see bread in the US that says "no sugar" that usually means some strange chemicals and when it says "no strange chemicals" it means it contains sugar.
Could have been impregnated
Could have been impregnated with some other chemical, I guess. I hope not. Anyway, that was the top blanket. I had another one under it, a sheet under that, and 3 layers of clothing on my body under those. It was cold! I hope those layers kept any harmful chemicals from coming in contact with my body.
I only needed the extra blanket a few days. the weather was warmer after the havy rains moved on.
lying gringos
There have been many statements here on NL about lying in Nicaragua and I was idly contemplating a US supermarket. What exactly does "The taste of fresh squeezed OJ", "Fresh OJ from Concentrate" really mean. The other day, I picked Oranges and had them in a glass inside 4 hours, THATS fresh - and Nicaraguan.
Lying gringos indeed
The blanket has 30% recycled wool, maybe the wool was recycled from those cholera-infested blankets purposefully given to the Native Americans 100 years ago as part of the genocide.
