Medical Schools in NicaraguaSubmitted by herb savage on 18 September, 2007 - 15:19.
I am a US citizen born in Wisconsin, raised in Michigan and I am interested in attending medical school in Nicaragua. I had attended a Costa Rican school in 2001-2002 (it was my first exposure to full time spanish)I did very well in my classes but had to return to the USA due to effects of 9/11 on my financials. While I was in Costa Rica I did travel to a couple of small towns on the Nic/CR border and enjoyed my time, in both countries. I traveled to barrios that had such poverty I couldn't believe how people could survive. It was sad but yet heartening to know people will perservere, looking for a better day. At any rate... the last several years of events in Costa Rica have caused me to re-evalute returning to school there. A former classmate of mine has traveled to Nicaragua and had told me about a school located there http://www.ucn.edu.ni/universidad.php and I have attempted to contact them by e-mail(in spanish), but have had no luck in receiving an answer back. To make a long story short-I was curious if you have any knowledge of the medical schools in Nicaragua, and how could I get to post a forum for any information from your readers. I am 62, retired and receiving social security and would be very interested to practice rural medicine . I want to live and do what I preach, The US medical system does not appeal to me. Studies
Latin American academies are not exactlie famos for easily accepting whats other usually North American countries call "transfered credits". This means that if you leave CR for NC you might well need to repeat the studies you has already done. That is something to consider. Also, and you probably alreadie know this but the best students in Central America usually study professionally outside Central America. Unlike Cuba Nicaragua does not have a reputation for training medical professionals mostly cause they are so limited in equipment and resources. If you cannot get a reply from admission worker at that school try to email a professor directly.
