Mural, about 20 years old, on building beside the Alcaldia across from the central plaza, promised Ortega's return to power. Or did it commemorate a new hero? Whatever, its location and permanence are revealing. ( categories: )

Sorry, dudes, but that mural has always had Ortega's face on it. It was painted in the late 80s when I lived in Estelí and was taken from a photograph of Daniel when he was at a celebration in Juigalpa in around 1986.
So let's not invent things.
If you're worried about "new heroes", I've already seen my first "Chayo 2011" t-shirt. If you don't like Daniel, just wait until his wife gets into the presidency....
thanks for the correction
I have edited the title & text to conform to the information you've shared. I did invent - guilty. It reminded me of something similar with Sandino, the cowboy image I guess, and with the Sandino motiffs on the municipal building beside it, I thought ... wrongly. Still it's puzzling being nearly 20 years old, with all his companions faceless. What is it, if not a hero's image painted for the people of Esteli?
Bad Move.
He didn't even fight in the revolution. He was hiding in Costa Rica. What a hero.
