Seminars for Extranjeros?

0

Tony's "INTUR ideas" post (plus an email about a free alternative energy seminar) got me thinking about this. I am generally not a fan of a government solution to things (yes, that probably surprises a lot of you) nor do I see tourism as the final solution to making Nicaragua's economy grow. That said, however, maybe there is something that could be developed to help. A lot of NicaLiving members could be the audience so let me toss the idea out for discussion.

For lack of a better name for now, let me call this an "orientation seminar". And, right off the bat, let me say that keeping it "honest" is a serious issue. That is, it needs to get paid for somehow and the most obvious way would be for the people involved in the presentation offering services for hire.

The target audience would be anyone interested in Nicaragua but with little knowledge of it. They might just want to spend a week here on vacation, them might be considering a second home or a permanent move. The main thing is that they know too little to make informed decisions and could use some help.

In this "seminar" they could learn a bit of history (enough to fill in the typical political stability questions), education and access to health care issues, information on regional and local events and culture and then, for the "might want to buy" crowd, a bit about legal issues related to corporations and property ownership.

Does this general concept (now how to pay for it, how to deliver it, ...) make sense? That is, for those of you with minimal knowledge of Nicaragua, would something along these lines be of interest?

Sounds like the casa canada people in CR

The CRRA costa rica residents association have been running these for years. They were heavily sponsored by stewart title and I thought they had sold out to stewart. Now I realize that a decent title company is in fact a great bonus to such an operation.

CRRA doesn't seem to have much of a problem getting paid clients.

Casa Canada

Don't get me started with them. The sold out to others as well. Too bad because it initially seemed like they were actually there to help the individual.

profit and ownership =/= sell out

Any enterprise has to stay in business if it is to provide a product. Just because Casa Canada may be owned by X or push product Y does not mean their product has no further value.

Remember when NL was ad-free? When you did not have NicaPlaza and a book? Are you a sell out - or are you trying to continue a valuable service in an affordable way?

Yesterday you praised www.jinotegalife.com which is heavily ad-ridden. Still a nice site and still great photos, but Fernando has to eat. As do you. As do the folks at CRRA.

I hope that NL, Nicaplaza, and www.jinotegalife.com can have a long life just as CRRA has done.

One day, www.jinotega.com will carry ads and no doubt someone will call me a sell out. So be it. Just send the check.

More Casa Canada

I have no issue with ads. I have an issue when promoting someone, encouraging your members to work with someone and then not supporting your members when they have been wronged by who you promoted and continue to promote is not important. Casa Canada did this and I was one of the victims.

I would love it if income from our web sites covered costs. Maybe someday it will. But, I am not going to support something that is not good for my "customers" to make that happen. And if there is an issue with something/someone we promote, I will address it. In fact, I have in two cases already.

A fine idea

It is, goes along with trade time for money concept, in this case is trade time, acquire education and as a result, save money and aggravation.
