Politics , Religion and Opinions at a Garden Party

0

Every one has one . The subjects of politics , religion and opinions on matters that are of importance when debated will surely expose us to other points of view that not always be to our liking . I came across this site and found it interesting to read about the experiences of those that had made Nicaragua their new home . The photos brought back memories of places that I cherished and also of places that I've yet to see for myself . The entries I've read and replied to I've chosen to read and participate of my free will .

Nicaraguan behavior

At first I told myself not to pay attention to mujermagnetica post about the " myth of the macho latino " , but when I saw how many responses it elicited I gave in . I'm going to give you the reason why Nicaraguans , both women and men , behave the way we do , although I try my best not to engage in such behavior but since I'm a nica I include myself .

A revision of Mr Revisionist crgsmguy's Guanacaste History.

0

Mr crgsmguy says : Costa Rica didn't steal Guanacaste . He is right when he says that . Anybody that goes around saying otherwise need to learn more about Nicaragua and Costa Rica's history . " Due to the civil war in Nic. the inhabitants voted to become part of Costa Rica in 1824 ." The year was 1824 , and it was not a civil war . Nicaragua was not yet a country as the rest of the other " Provinces ". Costa Rica due to its location , the southernmost of the region , was a little less if not completely involved on the armed conflict .

Sometimes Mothers Know Best .

When I was 16 years old I became enamored with the Sandinista movement. To me the "muchachos" and their leaders were heroes and I could only fantasize taking an active role but my true to the Catholic form mom made sure to lay the guilt on so thick that I actually believed her when she told me that if I were to join the Sandinistas I might as well kill her right there and then for her suffering , brought on by my jouning the FSLN , would certainly kill her and no good son would never do such thing . So I watched from the sidelines history being made .

Poll's accuracy

0

With the Honduras's situation there has been a lot of opinions posted citing polls results. Do you guys actually believe those polls can give a realistic sense of what a nation , such as Honduras and Nicaragua for that matter , really want ?. Amongst friends and relatives we, I mean Nicas, are quick to give our opinions fast and furious, but not with strangers. During Somoza's regime we had the "Orejas" , the Sandinistas had the CDS. So anybody that came up "polling" would not get an honest response most of the time even after telling us that our answer would remain anonymous.

Histories of Nicaragua. Side B

Sandinog says why talk about the past since there are more pressing issues right now. I believe is good to know one's country's history just don't dwell on it. Daddy-yo on his latest post poses a few "historical facts" in order to affirm the notion that somehow the US in respect to Nicaragua's affairs has been a reluctant participant because all Nicaraguans can't own up to their mistakes and responsibilities , and therefore can't be trusted to run their own country.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and so is the Truth.

I really enjoyed reading the topics posted lately and the replies they elicit. In most cases both topic and reply are interesting and intelligently argued, but as is the case in most debates each side will offer up its own array of facts and personal opinion based I suspect on many factors that influence each sides position; I've yet to meet a mother/father that would say yes my child is ugly and we all are loving but blind parents to our beliefs, dogmas, tenets, truths or whatever we want to call it. I heard long time ago someone say that History is written by the winners not the losers.

I didn't know El Flaco personally but

0

I'll remember him as a great boxer and if his behavior inside the ring before and after a fight was any indication of his true person I can only assume that he was a true Gentleman. Unfortunately his death will only give way to rumors and suspicions. When it comes to events as the dying of someone of relevance in Nicaragua the Truth is the first casualty. Whether he died by his own hand or by someone else's hand we may never know but it is truly sad . May he rest in peace.

Adages and popular sayings translation

I enjoy reading the popular sayings and their translations but I think it would be nice if the translation would include also a more literal one instead of the figuratively one for this I think will show the wit and play on words and phrases that Nicas and other spanish speaking nations have and use. For example how you guys would translate : A otro perro con ese hueso
